Daily Cupcake #417: Gossip
Great conversational skills take practice.
I like conversation. I like thoughtful conversation like what is found in an acclaimed book or movie, but I'm less a fan of conversations that feel like reality television or pseudo news channels.
Sometimes the idle chit chat seems to be a necessary precursor to the good, late into the evening, discussions.
Is it about safe ground to get to know each other? Mental fatigue? Practice? Cataloging things to say? Thinking more before speaking?
Which leads me to this #Dailycupcake about Gossip that follows the Pilates principle of "control". Depending on what you need in your day you can take:
Just a nibble- “Work hard, keep your mouth shut, and answer your mail.” Thomas J. Pendergast
A few bites– How much do you gossip?
Every last bite– Keep a conversation record for a day or week to see if you can up your game on quality conversation.
