Daily Cupcake #3: Tasks
Tomorrow is an all day trip for work. The day will start early and end late.
I try to make the most of these day trips.
I plan ahead to have plenty of reading material and podcasts at the ready for all the spaces in the day that would otherwise be just waiting.
I typically use the morning to focus on a long-term work project that otherwise may get pushed behind more immediate tasks.
These long-term projects are the really juicy work that must have their due attention.
Then in the evening after the day of being fully present and gregarious I typically switch to personal long-term projects that can otherwise face the same challenges as the ones for work.
Making the most of these extra spaces that arise every few months is just enough focused attention to make big strides.
Which leads me to this #DailyCupcake about Tasks that follows the Pilates principle of "concentration". Depending on what you need in your day you can take:
Just a nibble: “Focus is often a matter of deciding what things you’re not going to do.” John Carmack
A few bites: Set a timer for 15 minutes to focus on an item you’ve been putting off, like a few extra Pilates moves.
Every last bite: Start a daily reminder to dedicate just 15 minutes of focused attention to a task you’ve been putting off (reward yourself when it’s done).
