Daily Cupcake #72: Happiness
You cannot let others control your happiness.
I've heard that expression before. You probably have too. I've always felt it resonates within me.
Only recently, though, did I start asking myself what does that expression look like in practice?
It looks like making decisions about what I give attention and what I don't. I don't give attention to the person who cut me off in traffic, but I do give attention to being kind and empathizing with others.
Hello decision fatigue!
But it gets easier with practice. Kind of like Pilates.
Goodbye decision fatigue!
Hello control of my own happiness!
Which leads me to this #DailyCupcake about Happiness that follows the Pilates principle of "flow". Depending on what you need in your day you can take:
Just a nibble: “When we are happy we are always good.” Oscar Wilde
A few bites: Make a small gesture of kindness for someone else like taking on a chore they usually do.
Every last bite: Find a bigger gesture like preparing a double recipe and giving the extra to a caregiver or time crunched friend.
