Daily Cupcake #30: Confidence
Confidence is situational.
I am the type of person who has greater confidence about standing for my morals and values than going to a party. I've had life experiences where I've proven this to myself, and it helps me regain my center when I'm shaken.
I remind myself to stand strong, literally and mentally.
When I teach I remind myself to lengthen, which helps my voice project. When I go to the party I keep my shoulders open.
I've learned all these cues in Pilates.
Do you pay attention to your body language? I trained as a clinical psychologist, so this aspect of the individual always stands out, especially if it is incongruent with what they are speaking.
Which leads me to this #DailyCupcake about Confidence that follows the Pilates principle of "centering". Depending on what you need in your day you can take:
Just a nibble: “Stand tall in everything you do. Be honorable, truthful and always endeavor to do your best physically and mentally.” Joy George, Joes’ True Place Pilates, Cape Cod
A few bites: Set a reminder for five points throughout the day to remind you to do a posture check.
Every last bite: Keep the reminders going for a few weeks and reap the benefits of better posture. Take notice of you have any triggers for poor posture and correct them. You will feel stronger and confident, which makes the hard stuff more manageable.
