Daily Cupcake #20: Being Mindful
"Life's a journey, so enjoy the ride", or some such phrasing. We all know that it is telling us to be mindful of the present.
I think it is difficult. Sometimes I'll even be in the moment--like a seven hour car ride with a 15 month old--and ask myself how can I possibly make this a mindful and enjoyable moment?
Then it hits me that enjoying the ride all the time is ridiculous. Being mindful doesn't necessarily mean finding bliss, even though I tend to conflate the two.
Being mindful though does keep me aware of what emotions I am feeling and how often, so I can aspire to being my version of happy most of the time.
Which leads me to this #Dailycupcake about Being Mindful that follows the Pilates principle of "control". Depending on what you need in your day you can take:
Just a nibble- “Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be." Abraham Lincoln
A few bites– Consider how mindful you are throughout the day.
Every last bite– Find a couple of check points in your day to ask yourself how your feeling. What could you do to change the situation, if needed? What are your most common emotions? How does your mind feel? Your body?
